AJ Dalton, author of the Empire of Saviours fantasy trilogy, does a great job outlining a lot of the common mistakes new writers, such as myself, can be prone to make in this article over at SFF World. What I think is interesting is how these technical issues are the same ones that literary fiction writers need to keep in mind as well.
When I started out writing I bought into the idea that genre writing was not as “serious” as literary fiction. The more classes I took and the more I wrote it was eye opening to find that this was not the case.
Good writing is good writing and AJ Dalton hits the nail on the head with what that means.
